Carlsen Verlag builds a school in Angola
Since 2010 Carlsen has dedicated itself to a very special project. We at Carlsen have joined in a combined effort which aims to ensure that children in Africa south of the Sahara enjoy one of their basic human rights: the right to an education! Attendance at a primary school is denied around 45 million children in Africa to this day – every third child does not receive an education.
At the end of 2004, UNICEF, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Hamburg Society for the Promotion of Democracy and International Law, instigated the Schools for Africa campaign. Carlsen Verlag is participating and is presently building a school in Angola. This will enable Angolan children to enjoy a right that is taken for granted by young and old Pixi readers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: access to an education.
We are delighted and happy that Carlsen Verlag’s success has put us in a position to realise a project of this scale. Therefore our thanks go to all our readers and the numerous booksellers whose enthusiasm for our books has laid the foundation for this important project.
